The Power of Technology

I created this piece to use propaganda to show the effects Facebook has on society. Facebook has control over many people's daily routines. Whether it takes time away from paying attention to class' lectures or helps time go by while waiting in line at the market Facebook is used to by people everyday. Facebook shows the public people's personal lives through photos and status updates. Although it can seem harmless somebody's Facebook page can determine whether they'll get hired at a new job. I made an image of a man whose face is a Facebook icon controlling several people as a puppeteer. I did this to show the power Facebook has on people. The background is a world map  because Facebook is being used by people all over the world. The overall theme of this piece is carnival or circus like. I did this to show that the idea is strangely funny but at the same time entertaining.

Self Portrait

My self portrait contains a picture of myself somewhat distorted, however the choice of colors and images chosen reflect the type of person I am. The background is  full of vibrate colors that are raining down through a dark surface. I made the colors look as if they were paint dripping from the top of a paper or canvas. These colors represent my passion and interest for art. I also included a scene from my hometown, the pier. This pier represents my lifestyle in California. This pier was very close to my old job and also a place where my friends and I would go to relax. The pier symbolizes memories. I placed a tree in the left side of my portrait to show the idea of constant change. Trees are always morphing into something different, whether it's through seasons or growing older, and I feel that this is similar to path that my life is going. This is my first time using photoshop so if I could change anything I would add more visuals that would represent me, and make the picture look more cluttered opposed to plain and simple.

Assignment 1

1. Art is anything created by expression, emotion, and thought. Art is found all around us and is used in everyday life constantly. Art can be the stereotypical oil painting, photograph, or sculpture. But art can also be the unexpected such as music and film.

2. I have several favorite artists, each of them containing their own unique styles and techniques. John Singer Sargent is an American artist who was made famous by his elegant portraits. However the pieces that I have found the most interest in are his landscapes. He painted pieces that appeared to look extremely realistic. Sargent would also use thick oil paint which gave his art more texture than the average piece. Another artist that I admire Takashi Murakami, who is infamous for using outlandish  images and bold colors. He is also well known for his contribution to the fashion world when he designed for big named companies.

3. My favorite colors are purple and red.
